It has different versions since it was issued:

- Small eagle reverse (1796)
- Heraldic eagle reverse (1804-1807)
- Capped bust (1815-1838)
- Liberty seated (1838-1891)
- Barber or liberty head (1892-1916)
- Standing liberty (1916-1930)
- Washington (1932 to current)
The value of the coin is based on the age and the mintage. The 1823, 3 over 2 capped bust quarter coin can worth over several thousand of dollars.
